Set Up ChatGPT 5 Integration In Home Assistant
The easiest and free way to set up a ChatGPT 5 integration in Home Assistant is to use the Homeway.io add-on. Step 1: Install the Homeway Add-on

Step 2: Set up the Homeway ChatGPT 5 Integration
Once the Homeway add-on is installed, linked to your account, and running, Home Assistant will automatically discover the new ChatGPT 5 integration, speech-to-text, and text-to-speech via the Wyoming protocol.
- Open the Home Assistant dashboard in your web browser.
- Go to the Home Assistant settings
- Select “Devices & services”
- Find the box in “Discovered” for Homeway Sage
- Click the “ADD” button.

Step 3: Add the ChatGPT 5 Assist Profile
You now have the ChatGPT 5 integration for Home Assistant ready to use, but if you want to use it in Home Assistant Assist or with the Home Assistant Voice Preview device, you need to make a new Assist profile with ChatGPT 5.
- Open Home Assistant in your web browser.
- Go to the Home Assistant settings.
- Select “Voice assistants”
- Click the “+ ADD ASSISTANT” button.
- For “Configuration”
- Name – Anything you want it to be, we suggest “Homeway” or “Sage.”
- Set your preferred language.
- For “Conversation agent”
- Select “Homeway Sage”
- This enables ChatGPT-5 language model.
- For “Speech-to-text”
- Select “Homeway Sage”
- Set the language you want to speak in.
- For “Text-to-speech”
- Select “Homeway Sage”
- Set the language you want to speak in. Most voices support multiple languages and can even switch in real time!
- Select a speaker voice.
- Try the new ElevenLabs voices in the list; they are the most realistic-sounding voices yet!

- When you’re done, select “CREATE” at the bottom to make the new assistant profile.
- When the profile pop-up closes, locate the assistant profile you created, click the three vertical dots menu, and then select “Set as preferred.”
You did it! You can now use the full power of OpenAI’s ChatGPT 5 in your Home Assistant, Home Assistant Assist, or Home Assistant Voice Preview device. You can access the Home Assistant Assist via the dashboard for text or voice input.
