Claude Connector For Home Assistant
To set up the Cluade Connector for Home Assistant, you first need to set up the Homeway App for Home Assistant. Homeway is a Home Assistant community tool that enables cloud features like remote MCP servers, AI LLM chatbots, remote access, and more.
Follow these steps to set up the custom Claude Connector:
- Add the Homeway App to your Home Assistant (it takes about 10 seconds).
- Open the Claude app on desktop or mobile.
- Go to the Claude settings.
- Select “Connectors” in the settings list.
- Scroll to the bottom and select “Add Custom Connector”
- Name the connector anything you wish; “Home Assistant” works well.
- Enter the following URL as the “Remote MCP server URL”
https://homeway.io/api/mcp
- Skip the advanced settings.
- Click “Add” to close the pop-up.
- Find your new Claude Connector in the list, and click the “Connect” button.
- Log in to your Homeway account.
- Done! 🥳

MCP Server Security
Only Homeway’s remote MCP server for Home Assistant allows you to control which tools Claude can use, and it enforces this to ensure the AI can never access them. A tool is an action Claude can execute via the Claude Connector, such as turning on your lights or retrieving your home’s state.
Homeway allows you to enable or disable access to each tool on the Homeway MCP settings page, so you’re in full control. You can enable read-only access to your home by turning off the tools that can execute actions, or decide which actions you want to allow and which to block.
MCP Server Privacy
Privacy is a cornerstone of Home Assistant and Homeway. Homeway does not require your Home Assistant to be publicly exposed to the internet to enable the Claude Connector, ensuring only you have access. Homeway has a strong Privacy Commitment that forbids Homeway from collecting, storing, or selling your private Home Assistant data.
