So you have a myQ garage door opener or other smart home device and want to set it up in Home Assistant? I have some bad news, as of December 6th, 2023, Home Assistant no longer supports myQ devices.
But read on because there’s still a way to integrate your myQ devices into Home Assistant!
Why Did Home Assistant Remove MyQ?
Chamberlain Group, the company behind myQ, issued a statement saying that any third-party access to myQ would be disabled. Chamberlain Group claims that this is due to security reasons and the number of users using third-party integrations is less than 0.2%.
Due to that, the Home Assistant team removed their official support of myQ in Home Assistant.
You Can Still Add myQ To Home Assistant!
Not all hope is lost, thanks to the open-source project ratgdo. Radgdo is a project by GitHub user Paul Wieland. It works with ESPHome or HomeKit and can control your myQ devices and integrate into Home Assistant, creating a bridged connection.
To set up ratgdo on an ESPHome device, follow this guide.
To set up ratgdo on a HomeKit device, follow this guide.
Either route you take, once you have ratgdo up and running, you can connect ratgdo to your myQ device and your Home Assistant server. Ratgdo will bridge the connection from myQ to Home Assistant, so you still get complete control of your myQ devices in Home Assistant! Neat!
